Family Services of So. Wisconsin Receives $2 Million Grant for the Next Steps Family Resilience Center

Beloit/Janesville, WI — Family Services of So. Wisconsin is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a $2 million grant from Governor Evers' Non-State Grant Program. This generous grant will support the construction of the much-anticipated Next Steps Family Resilience Center, a facility designed to provide critical services to families in need.

Family Services of Southern Wisconsin is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families facing trauma, domestic abuse, poverty, and other challenges. The organization provides housing, counseling, and advocacy services in Rock and Green Counties.

“This grant is a significant step in expanding our housing and on-site supportive services,” said Kelsey Hood-Christenson, President of Family Services of Southern Wisconsin. “It ensures that the Next Steps Family Resilience Center will meet the needs of even more families, providing hope, healing, and long-term stability.”

The Next Steps Family Resilience Center will offer essential resources such as early childhood development programs, mental health services, family literacy support, and housing stability. These services are critical for families facing challenges, helping them build resilience and thrive within their community.

The $2 million grant awarded to Family Services is part of Governor Evers’ ongoing commitment to supporting local organizations that strengthen communities. In addition to Family Services, three other Rock County projects received funding: the Rock County Children’s Museum, Janesville Boys and Girls Club, and Kandu Industries.

“We are thrilled to have been awarded our full request through the Department of Administration Non-State Grant Program,” added Hood-Christenson. “These funds will be instrumental in helping Family Services expand our housing and supportive services at the Next Steps Family Resilience Center. Congratulations also to the other Rock County recipients—we’re excited to see the lasting positive impact these projects will have on our community.”

Family Services of Southern Wisconsin is deeply grateful to the Wisconsin Department of Administration, the State Building Commission, and all the supporters of this grant application. With this funding, we are one step closer to building a brighter, stronger future for families across Rock County.
